Literature Text

“Sister dear, you must calm yourself!”
Her scarlet hair enveloped her amber body as she shifted her gaze from the crisp bodies around her to me. “Oh yeah, and what are you going to do to stop me?”
The frown remained pressed on my lips. “The exact same thing I did last time dear sister.”
She twirled a strand of hair around an ebony finger and stared quizzingly at me. “Why do you care about them so much sister?”
“What do you mean?”
“About them.” she spat, gesturing to the bodies around her. “About these pathetic humans. These weak minded mortals.”
I stood my ground, glaring into her crimson eyes with my own sea-glass green, “Because sister, I am their life. I have a duty to protect them. They need me.” I certainly didn’t expect her to throw her head back with laughter.
“They need you,” she taunted, “Sister are you blind!? They are killing you. And don’t get me started on the other two. What about Sister Ventus, huh!? She weakens day by day! And what about Sister Terra!? Those humans are killing her too! And she provides so much for them! Honestly, I can’t understand. I just can’t.” When I reached out to touch her, without a second to spare, she vanished from my sight.
My eyes widened as my head spun three hundred sixty degrees. “Sister Incendia!” I cried out, “show yourself this instant!”
“We’re quite alike, don’t you think Sister Unda?” her voice echoed behind me.
My body whirled around to face her. With every step she took towards me, the ground became pitch black after a burst of fiery red.
My eyes began to fill with worry, ‘I’m sorry Sister Terra, Sister Incendia is angry. She is not purposely harming you.’ I prayed before turning my attention back to her. “What do you mean? Explain yourself!” I commanded, unable to control the shaking in my voice.
She stood by me face to face, being careful not to accidently touch my flowing turquoise hair or my pale blue skin.
“As I said Sister, we are similar. Didn’t you remember murdering that small boy a few days ago.” she hissed into my ear.
A memory flashed through my mind and I clutched the sides of my head. “THAT WAS AN ACCIDENT!!” I screamed.
“An accident? An accident?!” she began to laugh once more with an accusing glare. “You swallowed him whole. You allowed your children to feast on his dying corpse. And yet you were still forgiven!”
Now I understood. Without hesitation, I wrapped my body around hers, caressing my dripping fingers against her wild hair. As expected, she began to struggle.
“They need you, so you are always forgiven! You, Sister Terra, Sister Ventus! You can do whatever you desire without consequence!”
“Shhh….” Slowly her rage began to die down. “Sister Incendia,” I whispered, “it's true that the humans fear you, and with good reason, but they need you as well. You are the heat that warms them when Sister Ventus rages, and you provide them nourishment when their bodies cannot handle Sister Terra’s gifts. You are not simply a destructive force. Instead you are the light that glows when Sister Terra becomes drenched in darkness. They need you too. Just as much as they need the rest of us.”
